The Institute of Popular Education of Southern California (IDEPSCA) is a non-profit community-based educational organization incorporated in 1991. Your contribution will help educate and organize immigrant families: day laborers, household workers, adult learners, parents, youth and children to develop and promote self-sufficiency.

As a community organization that believes that it is only through our working together that we may achieve our goals IDEPSCA relies on donations from a wide base of individuals and institutions.

VOLUNTEER

Development Department Volunteer Opportunities

Background

Development Department provides communications, grant writing and as well as outreach, training, fundraising, and administrative support IDEPSCA’s programs and projects. Its role is to garner the financial and fundraising resources necessary to accomplish our mission, strategic plan, programmatic goals, and to stabilize and improve our financial health and sustainability.

Communications
•Design e-newsletter for donors, members, friends
•Interview program/ project coordinators for highlights
•Provide written translation (Spanish/English) if needed
•Participate in producing additional written materials for IDEPSCA’s fundraising and outreach efforts, such as newsletters, annual reports, brochures, articles, etc.
•Coordinate productions and mailings of year-end appeal letters
•Assemble media and donor kits for events and meetings

Grant Writing
•Conduct research on prospective corporations and foundations
•Write letter of intent and/or grant proposals
•Develop detailed understanding of specific program. This might involve reading staff reports, interviewing staff members, participating in strategy sessions, observing field work, and other means.
•Maintain a general familiarity with IDEPSCA’s activities by the same means.

Event Planning and Fundraising
•Assist in the planning and coordination of annual fundraising event
•Participate in any of the following committees: Media, Logistics, Sponsorship, Program Book, Auction
•Organize house parties and community celebrations that support on-going activities and build a base of community fundraising.
